History Main Street Nursery has always been a constant fixture in the Huntington neighborhood. We can trace its history back over 150 years. The house and surrounding property has seen a few pairs of owners and a few different faces as well. Our signature house was constructed around 1850 by a local whaling captain. About 20 years later the Funnell family constructed the first greenhouses on the premises. Through the turn of the century the house served many purposes for the local community. During the 1950's a florist was added, new owners came on board. The Raynor's purchased the main house, greenhouses and florist. Main Street was starting its future as a full service nursery and florist nestled on Long Islands North Shore. The Jacks were the next family to become a part of the Main Street history. They purchased the house and property in the mid 1970's and the garden center began to grow again. In the late 1990's Main Street was to see a new family of owners. The McKeans brought their own expertise to the existing garden center. Today Main Street Nursery offers many services to the Huntington area including Florist, Nursery and Greenhouse, Landscape Design and Construction, as well as Maintenance. About the McKeans Bob and Rich McKean have been in the landscape business since 1987. Sherwood Landscaping began as two teenage brothers cutting neighbors lawns after school and on weekends. After High School, Bob received his Bachelors Degree in Business from CW Post and Rich received his Bachelors Degree in Landscape Architecture from Syracuse University. Bob and Rich quickly grew their neighborhood lawn service business into a weekly maintenance business servicing over 350 customers and from there a reputable Design/Build company. In August of 1998, Bob and Rich purchased Main Street Nursery. Their goal was to create an environment where customers could come in to enjoy a beautiful setting and showcase their work, as well as their full service garden center, florist and gift shop.
